Immutable zkEVM Public Testing, Developing 12 Web3 Games
Immutable zkEVM Public Testing, Developing 12 Web3 Games
Author: TOM BLACKSTONE, COINTELEGRAPH; Translation: Song Xue, LianGuai
Web3 game platform Immutable has begun public testing of its Immutable zkEVM in collaboration with Polygon Labs.
After announcing a partnership with Polygon Labs, Immutable’s work on the zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) network started in March. Polygon’s own “Holy Grail” Ethereum extension zkEVM went live on the mainnet on March 27th.
In a statement on August 14th, Immutable stated that its zkEVM will allow game developers to reduce development costs and benefit from the security and network effects of the Ethereum ecosystem. In March of this year, Immutable’s co-founder and president Robbie Ferguson said that the zkEVM aims to increase the ownership of Web3 game players.

According to Immutable, over 20 game companies have partnered with Immutable to support this release, including GameStop, TokenTrove marketplace, game publisher Kongregate, game designer iLogos, etc.
It added that at least 12 games have started building their Web3 games on zkEVM. These include CoinArcade, Galaxy Commanders, Medieval Empires, MetalCore, Meta Toy, DragonZ SAGA, Rune Realms, Shardbound, Infinite Victory, EF Defense, and SimWin Football. MetalCore specifically announced that the test version of Immutable zkEVM will be released on September 15th.
The Immutable zkEVM testnet will use zero-knowledge proofs to protect the transmission between itself and the Sepolia Ethereum, allowing developers to test how the mainnet version will work after launch.
Immutable said that this network is fully compatible with Ethereum applications, which means developers can port Ethereum projects to this network with minimal changes. The team will also soon deploy “immutable relayers for currency abstractions and gas sponsorship,” which will allow developers to create gas-free wallet accounts.
Immutable’s CTO and co-founder Alex Connolly expressed his views that the new network will be “irresistible” for developers, saying, “This chain, combined with our platform product suite, is the first end-to-end EVM solution dedicated to making games successful. We have seen a lot of influx of games, players, and partners, which will make the Immutable ecosystem irresistibly attractive to the next generation of web3 games.”
Immutable is the developer of the Gods Unchained Web3 trading card game, which was originally launched on Ethereum. In April 2021, the company launched the first zero-knowledge-based Layer 2 network, Immutable X, in an attempt to reduce transaction fees for game players.
However, the network is not fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, the computing engine used by Ethereum. Therefore, users of Immutable X must create derivative keys through a web interface to use the network. In contrast, users should now be able to simply switch networks within their wallets to access Immutable zkEVM.
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin recently weighed the pros and cons of zkEVM, stating that it may lead to inefficient data efficiency and latency issues, but it could also significantly improve the scalability of Ethereum.
