Mythical Games migration, will Web3 games explode in Polkadot?
Mythical Games' migration Will Web3 games boom on Polkadot?
Recently, Mythical Games, the fourth-ranked blockchain gaming company in the monthly digital asset sales list, announced plans to migrate its Mythical Chain to the Polkadot ecosystem. This move will allow partners of Mythos games to establish their own chains and create the largest and most interconnected gaming ecosystem in Web3.
With casual party games, flagship game “Blankos Block Party”, upcoming game “Nitro Nation: World Tour”, and recently launched “NFL Rivals” (an American football game developed in cooperation with the NFL), Mythical Games has over 3 million digital asset transactions per month, more than 200,000 active wallets using over 1 million native MYTH tokens in-game transactions daily, and a growing portfolio of games. They are undoubtedly the leading innovators in Web3 gaming and metaverse.
As part of this groundbreaking initiative, Mythical Games will introduce and release its Mythos ecosystem on Polkadot. This is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that allows Mythos game partners and projects to build their own “super chains” using Polkadot’s unique technology and community, without sacrificing interoperability or connectivity, thereby lowering the barrier for game developers.

Why did Mythical Games decide to move from the Ethereum ecosystem to the parallel chain on the Polkadot ecosystem? According to John Linden, the founder and CEO of Mythical Games,
Polkadot’s commitment to innovation, security, and governance provides the greatest value to our community. We believe this new technology will not only support our continued growth but also enable other Mythos partners to use this technology for their own large-scale projects.
In his view, the decision to leave the Ethereum ecosystem was due to a series of issues, and even L2 Rollups, with relatively slower transaction speeds, would eventually hinder Mythical Games’ expansion plans for new games this year. Furthermore, it is crucial for Mythical to establish a secure and governance infrastructure that becomes stronger with increasing participation and time, and is fully interoperable with other Mythos ecosystem games.
John believes that this new technology will not only support the growth of Mythical Games but also enable other Mythos partners to use this technology for their own large-scale projects.
Björn Wagner, the CEO of LianGuairity Technologies and a major contributor to Polkadot, looks forward to more AAA game companies and gamers joining the Mythos ecosystem, bringing Polkadot closer to becoming the global leader in the next generation of gaming.
The founder and Chief Information Officer of digital asset management company Scytale Digital, Mark Cachia, said:
After choosing Polkadot, Mythical Games now has a solid foundation of innovation and top-tier technology to rely on and be able to focus on its expertise in gaming. We believe Polkadot will fulfill its promise of being the most advanced and versatile blockchain platform, which is why Scytale is proud to be an important partner in this transaction.
As a representative of the next generation of disruptive gaming technology companies, Mythical Games’ ecological migration will attract a large number of developers and partners to join the Polkadot ecosystem, collectively improving scalability.
What other games are worth paying attention to in the Polkadot ecosystem?
According to PolkaProject, as of July 20th, there are currently 579 projects in the Polkadot ecosystem, including 18 gaming projects. Besides Mythical Games, what other Web3 gaming projects are worth paying attention to in the Polkadot ecosystem?
Ajuna
Ajuna Network is a decentralized gaming platform and infrastructure based on the Polkadot ecosystem, and it is also a parallel chain focusing on games and NFTs. For developers of game engines such as Unreal and Unity, they can create incentive layers in games to achieve tokenized exchange of virtual goods.
In Ajuna Network, players can own and have full control over the virtual goods they acquire through games, and they can trade them on DEX and bring these in-game items into different games.
This is a significant upgrade to the current Web3 games, as in traditional games, players do not have true ownership or interoperability convenience for the game assets they spend hours acquiring.
With the collaboration with Integritee, Ajuna Network will be able to run the entire game engine in trusted execution environments (TEEs), providing a fast, secure, and scalable game ecosystem for Web3. Ajuna uses Layer2 as a solution, allowing game engines with complex logic to be deployed in off-chain executable environments connected to the Polkadot network. Its SDK simplifies the blockchain development process for game developers and partially solves limitations of EVM development, such as smart contract latency issues.
In 2022, Ajuna gained attention by showcasing the world’s first fully blockchain-based mobile game, and recently launched a collective game called Awesome Ajuna Avatars on their Kusama parallel chain Bajun.
Web3 game company Evrloot also recently revealed that its new game Stardust Colonies will be built on Ajuna Network, which reflects the increasing activity of application layer developers.
Efinity
Efinity is the next-generation NFT blockchain designed to serve as the infrastructure for decentralized metaverses, reducing the barriers of entry for NFTs and decentralized gaming, and simplifying the user experience and economics of digital asset management.
The significant market demand for NFTs has led businesses and developers to seek a platform that can provide a rich user experience, mainstream adoption, and developer-friendly NFT experiences. Prior to joining Polkadot, Efinity struggled with high minting fees, inflexible smart contracts, and the lack of interoperability with Ethereum. Thanks to the scalability provided by Polkadot, Efinity can process over 2 million NFT mintings per second.
Currently, there are over 100 brand partners building on the platform, and the new Enjin Wallet 2.0 expands the scope of Efinity further by enabling multiple addresses, improved portfolio views, in-wallet dapps, and multi-chain support.
Recently, MyMetaverse minted playable NFTs on Efinity, representing virtual assets that can be played across multiple games, including Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft. In 2022, Efinity will also collaborate with gaming giant Square Enix to develop Polkadot-supported NFTs for one of the most popular games, Final Fantasy.
Seascape
Seascape Network is an incentive-based gaming ecosystem designed around DeFi and the NFT economy, developed on Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Polkadot Substrate. By gamifying decentralized finance, Seascape enables users to easily enter the world of blockchain gaming and decentralized finance, while providing incentives for players, developers, and influencers to embark on entrepreneurial ventures.
Seascape offers SDK kits for developers to easily integrate their own games into the blockchain ecosystem at a low cost. Additionally, Seascape has launched the Scape Game Marketplace, which can connect to various ecosystems, allowing users to trade their game assets across different chains while playing games. Any user who downloads the client can help verify network transactions and earn rewards while enjoying their favorite games.
Seascape is being developed on Moonbeam, a parachain of Polkadot, which supports multi-token creation, cross-chain transactions, staking, improved data scalability, better permission control, and usability.
In the early stages of Seascape’s development, Seascape founder David was particularly interested in Polkadot’s parachain protocol solution, believing that Polkadot could provide scalability for Seascape. Therefore, Seascape chose the Moonbeam network within the Polkadot ecosystem, and its flagship game project, Moonscape, is currently only available on Moonbeam.
Why do these games choose Polkadot?
Ajuna’s co-founder Nicholas Douzinas once talked about why he chose Polkadot to achieve the project vision of “ensuring creators and gamers have more control and voice in the game.”
We like Polkadot because of its long-term vision. Essentially, Layer0 allows infrastructure to be built for a single purpose, and for games, we don’t have to worry about trust and security because that is provided by the entire ecosystem of Polkadot and Kusama.
The Web3 gaming industry is very demanding on infrastructure because games require scalability and various other guarantees. The advantages of Polkadot and the potential for future ecosystem development have shown strong appeal to more Web3 gaming projects.
Transaction fees, performance, and power consumption
Transaction speed, throughput, and gas fee limitations have had a significant impact on many Ethereum gaming projects. Web3 gaming projects have higher requirements for network interaction and throughput, and Polkadot adopts an improved mechanism of PoS called NPoS (Nominated Proof of Stake) consensus mechanism, which ensures both high-level security and efficient network operation.
In addition, its parallel chains allow for parallel processing of transactions, with an average speed of 1,000 tps. However, it is said to reach 100,000 or even 1 million tps after a major network upgrade. This fast transaction processing also contributes greatly to Polkadot’s gas fee, keeping the cost below $1. For game projects, the Polkadot ecosystem may be a more energy-efficient and efficient choice.
Interoperability
In the traditional gaming field, games can be cross-platform interoperable, for example, released on Xbox, Playstation, and PC. In the Web3 field, there is also the concept of cross-chain interoperability, which allows assets to cross multiple different blockchains through bridging contracts.
Polkadot is a blockchain network that supports multi-chain and cross-chain interaction, aiming to be a unified framework for blockchain technology. A key goal of Polkadot is to achieve seamless interoperability between chains, which guides all technological and strategic decisions of Polkadot.
In the development process of Web3 gaming projects, developers face a common problem, which is the fragmentation of liquidity for assets and users on many different chains. Polkadot’s own cross-chain technologies such as XCM (Cross-Consensus Message Format) and dozens of Layer1 chains in different directions bring great interoperability and scalability space to Web3 gaming projects, allowing users to play games and automatically replicate in-game assets on any chain they like. This not only helps games attract more users but also improves the experience of existing users and avoids additional gas fee expenses for users.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Currently, although some mainstream public chains have integrated vertical games, they are not designed specifically for gaming, so speed and privacy have always been the targets that Web3 games hope to address. Therefore, the industry needs fast and reliable infrastructure that also possesses confidentiality and privacy.
Polkadot, based on Substrate and Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology, is a decentralized, secure, and rapidly scalable computing network that provides a privacy-protected, verifiable, and low-cost computing service, laying a solid foundation for more game projects.
Community Support
As the blockchain gaming world expands at an increasingly fast pace, providing more value and diversified experiences for gamers and communities is undoubtedly one of the most important things.
Regarding the further expansion of the Polkadot ecosystem, founder Robert emphasized that Polkadot’s value lies in the collaborative cooperation and overall strength of its community.
The Web3 Foundation Grant program, LianGuairity’s Substrate builder program, the Polkadot treasury, hackathons, and other aspects can provide comprehensive support and ecological assistance in terms of funding, exposure, promotion, and resource connections for early-stage game projects, helping high-quality projects in their early development and progress.
Conclusion
For on-chain gaming projects, a technology ecosystem that is innovative and brings a more mature user experience can allow game developers to focus on game design itself. At the same time, in a more transparent, secure, and valuable environment, players, creators, brands, and game developers are more likely to collaborate to create the next-generation Web3 gaming ecosystem worthy of anticipation.
In the future, whether blockchain games will experience explosive growth in the Polkadot ecosystem still requires more practice from games and communities.
OneBlock will continue to pay attention to the relevant technologies and application updates of the Polkadot and Substrate ecosystems, hoping to provide inspiration for developers.
